Miami, FL – Sept 7, 2011 - HOPS, a leading provider of data analytic tools and products, released a series of data processing benchmarks of world record scale. In a series of benchmarks completed at the Hewlett Packard (HP) Solutions Center, the HOPS Data Processing Engine set a new standard in performance per processing node.
Chris Knorr, EVP for Core Technologies, shares HOPS' vision for big data solutions. "For years the HOPS mantra has been to fully leverage the available hardware through parallelization and the balancing of bottlenecks. When HOPS measures its performance it does so against what the hardware is capable of delivering in order to insure that all aspects of the data processing engine are taking full advantage of the available resources."
In the benchmark tests conducted in conjunction with Hewlett Packard, HOPS demonstrated consistently superior benchmark performance on the class of hardware most likely to be found in cost conscious data centers. Michael Kalinowski of HP describes the selected server, "The DL980 fits in a price point far below high-end systems and yet provides huge increases in possible memory, I/O expandability/throughput and CPU performance over any of the more commodity-like systems. There are multiple ways to scale-up within a single DL980 box - provided, of course, that the software running on it can take advantage of its tremendous power. HOPS is that software."
HOPS benchmark-busting performance delivers very real gains for the enterprise. HOPS CTO, John Moses, explains, "There are many classes of data problems that are not well-suited for scale-out techniques. Some examples include applications that have large intermediate results, indefinite partitioning rules, or large, late-stage, single-gated processing tasks. Additionally, scale-out systems have large increases in overall systems complexity and management costs. While HOPS is able to dramatically reduce these scale-out disadvantages, it also makes it possible and easy to scale-up your solution by taking advantage of powerful, new server hardware providing orders of magnitude in improved performance over traditional BI and database tools. The pairing of the HOPS engine with powerful servers like the DL980 provides you with an efficient way to scale your application without the rewrite, without the complexity, and without the huge increases in cost and project time needed for 'the leap' to scale-out.
Details on the specifics of each of the benchmarks are available in the HP-published white paper, "HP reference configuration for HOPS Reveal on HP DL980 G7".
