
Arlo Bess, Chief Security Officer and Senior Vice President of Information Systems, brings HOPS expertise in many areas, including building highly available and redundant data centers and call centers, building and staffing various departments and teams, launching enterprise-class security programs and running all aspects of disaster recovery and business continuity programs. He has extensive, in-depth security knowledge of the payment card and healthcare industries, as well as various federal, state and industry specific privacy and security requirements.
In addition, his skills as a Practical Growth Leader and more than 23 years of Information Systems experience have enabled him to leverage his systems and security knowledge to develop small businesses into fast-growing companies that continue to scale well and keep up with market demands. Arlo's wide background includes industries from public education and aviation to financial services, including 13 years in management of corporate security programs.
Before joining HOPS, Arlo was with eFunds as the Regional Security Officer of a 5500-person, multinational financial services firm. He was responsible for the Information Security Program for the Americas, ensuring it was consistent with the overall global security strategy of the company.
Prior to his position at eFunds, Arlo was Vice President of Information Security and Vice President of Data Center Operations at WildCard Systems. His roles there ensured that all Information Systems infrastructure was built to scale quickly and securely, while supporting the high availability demands of the Visa/MasterCard issuing processor environment.
During his career, he has held various technical certifications from Microsoft and Cisco, and he is currently a CISSP. In addition, The Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C. honored a project on which he assisted the Excellence in Academia award.
Arlo received a B.A. in Business Administration from the University of California and a M.B.A. in Management of Information Systems from California State University. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Information Systems with an emphasis in Information Security.
